Bolsonaro detained after being deemed a risk of fleeing
The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.
The one-time leader was convicted of planning a military coup in September and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.
This included attempting to break his tracking device and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.
Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns
In a paperwork permitting the custody, Justice Moraes said information from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his getaway".
This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the protest called by his offspring.
His son, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.
His son wrote on online platforms on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."

Recent Judicial Appeals
It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.
They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other ailments.
Details of Guilty Verdict
He was found guilty of heading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
High Court judges said that he knew of a plot which involved plans to murder his opponent and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing the former president's case.
The scheme was stopped because it failed to get the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was sworn in without issue on January 1st, 2023.

The judges found that the protesters had been incited by him whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, reestablish control and return him to office.

He was also banned from running for public office until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.
The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him running in the 2026 presidential election.
