Britain Prepared to Use Immobilized Russia's Funds to Support Ukraine's Military Campaign
The UK is ready to advance with utilizing the total value of immobilized Russian funds to bolster Ukraine's war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to come to the table.
They clarified that the move would be implemented in close cooperation with the United States.
British sanctions have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russia's resources since Russia launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, previously, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's assets had only been sourced from earnings and returns generated on them.
Sir Keir informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were united in their desire to push forward toward using the total worth of the frozen Russia's state funds to halt hostilities.
He stated that more measures over the next period would heighten the tension on Moscow.
This announcement comes after EU leaders gathered in the Danish capital recently to consider using seized Russian holdings for a 140-billion-euro loan to Ukraine.
In the previous month, President Donald Trump called on G7 allies to seize or employ immobilized Russia's funds, based on media sources.
The worth of frozen Russian holdings in the European Union is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

Two people were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the assault, authorities in Ukraine stated.

"The necessity is not empty words but decisive action - from the America, Europe, and the G7 - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing restrictions," he emphasized.
"Every sanction decision diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
In the same period, Zelensky told reporters he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which partner nations buy weapons from the America to donate to Ukraine.
While commending the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for the Ukrainian government, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the system, as well as apply more measures on the Russian Federation.
