Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the US has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
