Combatants chuckle as they travel on the back of a pick-up truck, hurrying by a line of nine dead bodies and driving towards the setting Sudanese sunset.

"See this extensive accomplishment. See this instance of genocide," a combatant cheers.

The fighter grins as he turns the video equipment on his person and his fellow combatants, their Rapid Support Forces insignia clearly shown: "The victims will all be killed this way."

The men are rejoicing over a atrocity that aid workers fear resulted in the deaths of over two thousand individuals in the Sudanese city of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

A Community Isolated from the World

Following their control of the community under siege for almost two years, from late summer the paramilitary force moved to reinforce its position and prevent access for the remaining civilian population.
