The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG set within the franchise’s apocalyptic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to launch in the spring of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this setting, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the nation into chaos. As the crisis worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, transforming the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the players come in.
Work on the RPG has been underway for about several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to reach a broader market, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin right after the campaign, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and tactical style. Players use skills or traits to roll small dice pools, usually between one and five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, players choose a single “result die” from the group.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a perfect 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Situational Insight
Battles stress placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This system is designed to reward coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound System
The way injuries is tracked adds a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
- They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the last stand common to video game shooters.
- Any player in this state must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining lingering conditions like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A free Quickstart Guide will be released soon. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the full range of offerings are expected to be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
