UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct souls, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
